I’m approaching day +100 since receiving my sister’s stem cells which is the first big milestone for transplant patients. “That’s when the greatest risk for critical side effects is past and when the stem cells have engrafted and begun making new blood cells.” Source
Since my last update I was hospitalized for 2 weeks after finding out I had acute graft vs host disease(GvHD) as well as C. Diff. The medications I received to combat GvHD has proven to be a challenge. After being discharged I had lost a lot of muscle in my legs, arms, and core. It was quite apparent when I got home and tried to go up the first step to our front door. I didn’t make it and crumpled to the ground. Luckily my dad was able to pick me up and put me back on my feet. I’m slowly gaining back muscle and have plans to start physical therapy soon to help the process of regaining strength and mobility move along.
Since being an outpatient I received my first vaccine, which is exciting because once you get a bone marrow transplant all previous vaccines are wiped out. I got results from my last bone marrow biopsy that showed no signs of leukemia! I also got my day +100 bone marrow biopsy which I have yet to get results from. Overall my doctor and nurse practitioner seem pretty happy with my labs and progression since transplant.
